RRB Group D 2022 results percentile system

The Railway Recruitment Board has announced that it will calculate merit for the group D exam by using percentile score. Percentile score will normalize the result and help the candidates understand where they rank among the other candidates who took the RRB group D exam. RRB has amended Para 15.1 of the notification for the exam to include the changed normalization system.

In the percentile Normalization system, marks obtained for every shift of the examinees are converted into a scale from 100 to 0. While Percentage shows how many marks have been scored in 100 in each subject, it is different from percentile, which shows  how many candidates are there whose marks are less than or equal to you. Your percentile score basically means how many students have scored less marks than you. For example, a percentile score of 95% means that you have scored more marks than 95% of the candidates that attended the exam in the same shift. The percentile score will be considered the normalized score of the exam. The same score will be used for the merit list.

The percentile score will then be combined for the actual exam score of all the candidates that appeared in the exam for all the shifts. This will be labelled as RRC score. It will further be used to process the result and decide merit allotment for all candidates who have appeared in the exam.

According to the procedures outlined by the Railway Recruitment Board, The highest scorer of each shift will get 100th percentile. The percentile score will be calculated upto 5 decimal places, which was determined according to the number of students who participated in the exam.

One should note that if two candidates get the same percentile normalized score, their age will decide the merit. The older one (with an earlier Date of birth) will be placed on a higher merit. If the age is the same, their merit will be decided according to the first letter of their name(A to Z) alphabet. The candidate with the earlier alphabetical order of name shall be given preference for the higher merit.
