Will the home appliance industry be a small patch with respect to the creation of the ‘appliances of the future’? Everything indicates that this will happen for an indefinite period of time. While those futuristic applications arrive that some anticipate, the voice assistants will continue being the kings and the queens of the segment.
There is no doubt: voice assistants will continue to have a special role. Amazon with Alexa, Apple with Siri and Google with Assistant know that much of the most immediate match will be played in this area, and therefore do not hesitate to take the rest to the point that is necessary. Within this segment, Apple’s HomePod will mark-again-another turning point.
But, as we have said on other occasions, not only does Apple want its share of the pie. LG has not been stared and choose 2018 as the year to put on the market its LG ThinQ Speaker, which will work with Google Assistant voice commands. Through this device, which will recognize different voices, LG’s smart home appliances can be operated, and even pilot other ‘services’ such as an air purifier.
LG will use the ThinQ product line to continue betting on artificial intelligence technology. That is, it will not stay only in a speaker. What the Korean brand aims for (rather all the technological brands) is that we can create intelligent ‘networks’ at home. Through ThinQ the user can operate the washing machine and the dryer, the oven or even the cleaning robots.
Away from the smart speakers of Apple or LG, what seems certain is that the large home appliances will continue to show intelligent advances, although at the moment very oriented to the aforementioned voice assistants.
Amazon continues to get confidence and has already been assured to control through Alexa the smart appliances of General Electric, LG, Samsung and Kenmore. Does Amazon have any kind of limit? It seems not. Little by little, the company led by Jeff Bezos is making a monopoly in the kitchen, of which only a few brands get rid. At the beginning of this path, for Amazon the issue was more complicated, because if they wanted to work with Alexa, they had to work on the development and programming for specific controllers. With this type of agreement, they have turned the tables on their products and brands will develop their products with the ability to work through Alexa.
“From AT & T we foresee a future in which the user will be able to communicate with the household appliances of his house to make the purchase and prepare the food”, they assure from this company (a giant in the USA), confirming therefore in what aspect the industry will focus of the appliance for the future.
Although we would like the fans of technology to be so, the fact is that the 2017-2018 season fork will be left with the integration of voice management as the most futuristic advance in the field of household appliances. It is something that will reach everyone, almost without exception. Hisense, for example, will make you control your words to the air conditioning.
What a strange is that, by analyzing the sector Google and Amazon that seem to be eating all the cake. Few manufacturers are working, or at least that’s the prevailing feeling, with Apple. In addition to all the aforementioned brands, others such as Roomba already allows to handle their famous robot vacuum cleaners with Assistant, through the iRobot Home application. Like General Electric (GE), who does not marry anyone and also confirmed at the time that their line of appliances baptized as Geneva will also be able to with the Google assistant (remember that GE also has an agreement with Amazon).
A mirror with a camera that knows if you are sad, a refrigerator that measures your vital signs or an intelligent system that listens to your voice and adjusts the light to your mood. This will equip the houses of the future, homes in China begin to be see as not too distant.
The main brands of household appliances of the world presented in the city of Shanghai (east of the country) its latest developments in the Appliance and Electronics World Expo (AWE 2019), one of the main global fairs in this sector.
After four days of presentations and discussion, the desire and plans of the step for our lives became clear: artificial intelligence will reign in homes, with appliances that will not only do what you ask but will be able to detect your emotions and react.
The latest washing machine presented at the fair by the company can read the labels of clothing, recognize the colors and materials to prepare a cleaning plan that protects clothes, as well as offer suggestions such as drying the laundry in the sun on the balcony.
The market of household appliances has become a great bet of China and, according to a report presented at the fair, the income of this sector increased by 9.9% during 2018 to reach 222,000 million dollars (196,000 million euros).
