Your basement is prone to collecting water from a variety of different sources. If you don’t take steps to protect it from water damage you risk damaging the foundations of your home, as well damaging anything that you keep in the basement. Follow these steps to ensure that water damage is never something you need to worry about. You can also visit for commercial water tank cleaning.

Divert Collected Water Away From Your Basement And Into The Drain

Most modern basements will have a sump that collects any water that enters your basement, even if you have a home with a septic tank. If water in the sump overflows, you risk water damage in your basement. The best solution to this problem is to find the best sump pump for septic tank systems. This is a device that pumps water out of your sump and into the sewage system, dry well, or any other place where it will not cause problems. Using this type of a device is common in areas where flooding is common, even if the basement has a waterproofing system. Usually, the waterproofing system will include measures to direct floodwater towards the sump, so that it can be pumped out and handled appropriately.

Make Sure Your Basement Is Waterproofed And All Leaks Are Repaired Immediately

As we’ve previously mentioned, the waterproofing system of your basement is responsible for directing any water into your so it can be moved away from the foundations of your house. If you see any signs of water damage, you need to deal with it immediately. Even better, you should be regularly inspecting your basement to check for any cracks in the waterproofing or any damages that could potentially lead to leaks if left unrepaired. Of course, the sooner you repair everything, the better.

Regularly Clean Your Window Wells

Although window wells are crucial to allowing light into your basement which can help keep it dry, they do ten to clog up if you neglect them. Leaves and other debris collecting in your window wells is a major source of leaking in your basement and can contribute to serious water damage. Clean your window wells as often as you clean your gutters – at least once every month during autumn and the rainy season of your area.

Roof Leaks And Pavement Cracks

This may seem unrelated, but any leaks in your roof (or gutters) and cracks in your pavement can easily cause water to seep into your basement. Especially if your pavement has settled over time, it will be prone to cracking. The problem with the cracks in your pavement is that you may not notice that water is leaking into your basement or foundations until it is too late to prevent water damage. Roof leaks are easier to detect because they are more noticeable – everytime it rains, the roof leaks. Pavement cracks can even absorb water from washing your driveway, so it’s best to deal with them promptly.

Regularly inspecting your home for leaks is the best way to prevent water damage. Repairing leaks is much more affordable than water damage repair, so set a regular schedule to avoid the problem from the start.
