Our world is working different types of energies. These energies are interchangeable but unending.
Which means the energy contained in our universe can change its form but cannot cease to exist or get destroyed or created in any way.
In this article, we will discuss the different laws of Newton and also the exchange of energy in hot and cold objects and round or Square Object.
Newton’s Law of Thermodynamics
Newton’s first law of thermodynamics states that the energy can neither be created nor destroyed. It can simply change its form and transfer from one object to another.
Similarly, heat is a form of energy, which can change its form and transfer but cannot get destroyed or created.
This theory is backed up by Newton’s law of cooling also known as the third law of thermodynamics, which states that the rate at which an object cools is directly proportional to the difference in temperature between the object and its surrounding. This law is presented in the form of an equation as follows:
In a more comprehensive way, the law says that a glass of hot water will cool down much quicker in a cold room than in a hot room.
How Does An Object Melt?
Melting is a form of heat transfer or energy transfer. Melting occurs when heat is transferred from one object to the other.
It is very easy to understand that the heat energy flows from a point of high temperature to a point of low temperature. For example, a scenario where ice is placed on a table at room temperature.
In this particular incident melting of ice occurs because the atmosphere (having a higher temperature than the ice) transfer its energy to ice (having lower temperature and heat energy).
Besides heat energy, every other energy as well behaves in a similar manner, flowing from a point of higher concentration to a point of lower concentration.
Which Will Melt Fast Ice Cube or Ice Ball?
To answer this question, another law of physics is important to understand. The melting of ice according to the shape depends on the surface area.
If a sphere and a cube of the same volume is created, the surface area of the sphere would be much less than the surface area of the cube.
This increase in the surface area lets the ice melts faster because the atmosphere has more surface area on the object to transfer heat.
An ice ball has a surface area around 24 percent less than the surface area of the cube of the same volume. Therefore, the ice cube will melt much faster than the ice ball
You may have noticed many bars using sphere ice for Chilling their drinks and cocktails. This simple rule of physics is behind the use of these ice balls, which help keep the drink cold without melting quickly and as a result diluting the drink itself.
Going about our lives we can always see and experience the examples of Newton’s law of cooling and thermodynamics.
Everything and phenomenon that we experience are backed up by logic and a huge never-ending world of science.
