Luxury packaging is a specialized market worth USD 16.65 billion. It is known to be the most extensive packaging market, followed by the rapidly growing cannabis market. What is luxury packaging, and who is the target demographic for it?
Luxury packaging comprises of a wide range of specialty packaging products. It is the creation, research, and development and production of packaging made specifically for luxury brands. The luxury packaging has been seen as an expression of the brand’s image. It evokes a particular lifestyle associated with luxury products and the people who buy these. Consumers are likely to pay higher for the products which are luxuriously packed in high-end and visually appealing boxes. It adds value to the product and manifests the brand’s essences by creating more customer engagement.
It also offers practicality, ease, and functionality to the unboxing experience. The highly appealing unboxing experience becomes a “wow factor” for the people who spend extra money on it. The luxury packaging market is rapidly expanding at a global level. The reason behind its growth is the high demand for customized and personalized packaging. It has become the only choice of consumers having a luxurious lifestyle.
The luxury packaging market is expected to grow by 4.08% in the next four years. The market is expected to hit a whopping USD 23.37 by 2025. Items commonly packaged in luxury packaged include makeup, chocolates, wine, liquor, cigars, shoes, clothing, and food. The list is not exhaustive.
Usually, the buyers who go for products packed luxuriously are the ones having a luxurious lifestyle. The discerning consumers who never bat an eye on a price tag saying $1000 is wealthy with a luxury lifestyle. When customers pay highly for a product, they expect the packaging to be elegant, one-of-a-kind, and appealing in every manner.
Take a wholesale eyelash box as an example, designed with a series of colorfully illustrated packaging that portrays women’s different characteristics with bold patterns and vibrant colors sound luxurious. Custom eyelash boxes with logo giving a sense of smooth silk through high-gloss finishing ring luxury bells. Using augmented reality, where the women can virtually try on the wholesale eyelash, further drive the luxury level up. All these elements are a definition of luxury packaging. The consumers, who can afford to buy expensive custom eyelash boxes with logo, expect greatness in the product’s packaging.
A massive part of the consumer base cannot afford to spend on luxury items. Considering the customer’s segment, who can justify spending highly on such things is relatively small compared to the overall consumer base. Still, the luxury packaging market is booming like crazy. The luxury consumer base is so small that one may be excused to question its profitability. However, even with the small consumer base, the elite buyers consume more than 10 billion tons of luxury packaging goods globally.
According to the Sales Director of The Legacy Printing, “The luxury packaging market has an extremely demanding consumer base, which expects ultra-high quality with state-of-the-art uniqueness in both product and packaging. Meeting consumers’ expectations while keeping a score of environmental impact is not an easy task. Therefore, both the parties’ responsibility is to take a midway, where they can find an attractive, ultra high quality yet sustainable packaging.”
