A Look into the Best-selling Game, Minecraft

Minecraft is a title that almost everyone in the world knows about. It has popularity similar to Disney or even Marvel’s Avengers. It’s a recognizable brand that continues to grow in popularity every year.

The game is addictive and filled with so many features. You’d also be surprised about the things Minecraft can do. But first, let’s start with its story. Minecraft has a history and one that is loved by fans. Its history begins with a person named Markus Persson.

The Cave Game

Let’s rewind to 2009, when gaming was a pretty niche hobby, and when a twenty-nine-year-old Markus Persson was about to change all that.

Only a few people knew the first iteration of Minecraft, and only a few knew of its original name, Cave Game. It didn’t have a catchy title because Persson wasn’t a marketer, nor was he a businessman. However, he was a developer at heart, and he wanted to make a game for everyone. He envisioned a game that all ages could play, and with enough creativity, you can do anything.

The Cave Game had the fundamental gameplay aspects of Minecraft. You had to gather resources to survive against mobs of enemies and monsters. The game’s central goal was to survive as long as you could and build structures that’ll better your chances for survival.

After a couple of years, Cave Game was changed to Minecraft. It was then released in 2011 when it sold about four million copies.

The Best-Selling Game of All Time

After its initial year of release, Minecraft sales never dipped. In 2020, it reached a milestone of selling 200 million copies, making it the best-selling game of all time. The game before it was GTA V, with 150 million copies.

Minecraft continued to break records until this year when it sold an estimated 220 million copies worldwide. It seems that its sales won’t slow down anytime soon, and as more gamers join the market, more people will continue to purchase Minecraft. But what makes this game so successful?

Accessibility

Minecraft has a distinct look to it. It looks like an 8-bit game, and because of this, graphical fidelity is not all that amazing unless you install some graphical mods. This helps the game create its own distinct identity, making it more accessible to people. You don’t need a high-end rig to play Minecraft. Some of the cheapest gaming PCs that are for sale can play this game. Furthermore, you can play it by purchasing a copy from the website. The price is also particularly low when compared to bigger titles, only costing gamers about $19 to buy the game.

Accessibility plays a big role in a game’s access. If your game is not accessible, then your game will likely be on store shelves until the end of time—another reason why Minecraft is such a success is that it gives so much freedom to players.

Unlimited Creativity

Minecraft is a survival game, but it’s also a building game. You can build anything you can think of it, given the right resources and time. Moreover, you can choose to create all sorts of equipment for your character. Some resources can even interact uniquely with one another.

Since its release, continuous improvements in the game have made the game more complex than ever. But learning this complexity rewards players with the ability to build nations and empires in their worlds. They can mold or carve the world to their liking.

Another reason why it is such a success is because of its culture.

Culture and Identity

Minecraft has created an identity for itself, and it’s one that’s pretty much recognized by every gamer in the world. The culture of Minecraft is filled with content creators, builders, influencers, and role players. It has over one trillion views on YouTube, and this number continues to grow. It’s free marketing at this point, and no one in Mojang is complaining.

You can visit various servers that are accustomed to your gameplay experience. If you’re someone who wants to build things without a challenge, you can join an explorer server. However, if you’re someone who wants to have a challenge in surviving Minecraft’s harsh but exciting world, then you can choose a hardcore server.

There is a server for everyone in Minecraft, and you can meet a lot of people on these servers. Joining a server is an enjoyable experience and one that’ll stay with you until the end of time.

Minecraft is considered to be the most successful game in the world. It continues to be popular among many people regardless of their age. It’s a game that will continue a decade from now and grow into something bigger.
