If you are involved in machinery rigging, there are certain things that you must consider while moving and transporting large equipment, to ensure the safety and efficiency of the process. This article discusses 7 things that machinery riggers should consider while heavy hauling. Here we go:

1. Thorough Inspection

Before you start the project of heavy machinery moving, machinery riggers must thoroughly inspect the involved machinery to make sure that it is safe. This is to get a clear idea about existing or potential technical issues which you might be overlooking. Only get on a project where all machinery is in excellent working condition.

2. Qualified Personnel

The personnel involved in machinery rigging should be qualified, experienced, and well-trained to understand machinery and the required work to be done. Experienced machinery riggers should be able to anticipate issues which might arise down the lane, so that they can be sorted out before hand.

3. Maintain Good Balance

Machinery riggers should keep an eye on the load of balance at all times. This means the upper suspension and load hook should always form a straight line. Also, you must look out that the hoist body or the chain should never come in contact with the load, because in case of misbalance, the crane can be tipped over. So, you must know the load capacity of a vehicle or vessel, and also know the exact center of gravity for the load.

4. Make Sure Loads are Landed

If the machine has been turned off, make sure that there are no suspending heavy loads. For safety, all loads must be landed.  While loading and unloading, you must take into account the surrounding environment so that the process is smooth, without obstruction and does not pose danger to the community in case things are knocked over.

5. Load Safety

If the load is suspended in the air, the crane operator must ensure that no personnel walk under the load. If the load has to remain suspended due to any reason, make sure that it is not done in a direction which might be the passage for people, has no power lines in its way, and is not obstructing any activity.

6. Use a Spotter

During rigging, if machinery riggers don’t have a clear view of the entire surrounding, they must use a spotter to direct the load, so that no damage is caused to any side, Which of the following is true about Energy Drinks and mixers: and the whole surrounding remains clear. The spotter must also know if any people are around in that area so as to caution them to remain away from the load.

7. Know Your Equipment

An experienced machinery rigger should have a complete knowledge about their machinery. This includes the capabilities and other features of the moving equipment. Normally, such information is included in the operator’s manual. Therefore, as a machinery rigger, you should have the knowledge of the boom length, the load radius, and the maximum angle capability of your machinery, so that you can maintain balance for the load.

Logistics Role in Rigging Machinery Transport

Logistics plays a significant role in heavy equipment transportation preparation. Logistics help make loading, unloading, and transportation of machinery easy and hassle-free. With the access and availability of conveyors, forklifts, carts, cranes, picking systems, automated warehouses, and sorters, the process of machinery rigging becomes efficient and easier.
