Everybody’s heard the basics: You can improve your health with the help of diet, exercise, and regular visits to the doctor. What you might not realize is that there are plenty of unconventional things that you can do to improve your health as well. If you’re looking for ways to keep yourself healthy, happy, and thriving, check out some of these unique tips.

Get Health Insurance

Health insurance is important for a number of reasons, not least of which is the fact that the very act of having (and using) it can help you to improve your health. People who have health insurance are more likely to go to the doctor if they feel ill, more likely to make and keep follow-up appointments, and more likely to see specialists for unique situations such as needing a sensory processing disorder test. The more that you use your insurance, the more likely you are to be healthier.

Finding the right health insurance plan is the key, though. Not all plans are made for all people. This is especially true of millennials and Gen Z people. Younger generations are busier than ever and need insurance that they can get and maintain on the go. This means finding a company that uses software such as Insurtech, which helps them to streamline their processes and offer more personalized policy recommendations.

Learn a Second (or Third!) Language

Learning a second or third language keeps you healthier in several ways as well. First, training your brain to learn new things means that you’re giving it a workout that improves your overall cognitive skills and may even help you to retain memories as you age. In addition to keeping your brain healthy, it may also help you to interact with groups of people who you previously may not have been able to communicate with. If you downloaded Duolingo when it was all the craze and haven’t checked it out again, maybe now is the time to dust off that app.

Quit

Sounds simple enough, right? You wouldn’t believe how many people stick to doing things they don’t love day in and day out simply because they are afraid to quit. Now, naturally, you probably can’t just up and quit your job with no notice, but if it isn’t making you happy, you can begin submitting your resume for positions that might leave you feeling happier, more fulfilled, and therefore healthier.

Think about other responsibilities that you take on as well. Taking care of your children is non-negotiable, but do you really need to be one of the only parents who provide snacks, chaperone field trips, and handle all the PTA meetings? Delegate some of those tasks to other parents so that you can actually enjoy your time with your family in the evenings on occasion.

Did you agree to play in the town softball league this year? If it’s late in the season, maybe you don’t want to put people out by stopping right away. That doesn’t mean that you need to let people pressure you into playing next year, though. Think about the things that leave you feeling withdrawn, exhausted, and unhealthy, and then work to make the changes so that you can open up your time for things that leave you feeling happier and more fulfilled in your life.

There are all kinds of ways to improve your health, conventional and not. The key is to understand your own feelings and body and how the things in your life are affecting them. Chances are you’ll find some unconventional ways of your own to get healthier and live a happier life.
