When you are in the market for a new job or you’re just starting out as a young person looking for new employment, there are different ways to go about doing that besides the conventional ways. Of course your most conventional way of searching for a job is printing off a handful of resumes and starting walking through town and going door-to-door dropping off those resumes to whoever will take it. Here is a list of 5 unconventional ways to find a job: using social media, attending social events, word of mouth, applying online, and networking.
Social media nowadays is one of the easiest ways to reach a large audience that has similar likes and dislikes. That also could mean that using social media you could reach people with similar interests, hobbies, and even employment interests and opportunities. It’s quite likely that you have a friend or family member that knows someone that knows someone that’s looking for new people to hire. Your name could be given or you could get information given to you about said employment opportunity and be able to use that information to reach out to the necessary people.
Sometimes you can find things near you that are geared toward obtaining work. Like a job fair for instance. They are specifically geared towards helping people looking for a job, but is quite obviously a very conventional way of finding a job. A similar approach, but definitely a more unconventional way of finding a job would be going to a trade show. You can easily research when you can attend the next trade show in a nearby location. They have specific locations and dates/times so planning ahead is necessary. They will have an array of popup trade show displays where you can ask questions to the current employer and/or employees that may be able to lead you in the right direction if they do have any job openings or not. These trade shows have multiple displays and people just waiting to spread their word.
Sometimes, even just word of mouth can get you headed in the right direction if you make sure you send the information in the correct manner with a goal in mind. You just never know what a small conversation with someone can lead to. When looking for employment, it can be necessary to use all the unconventional ways possible to get your foot in the door at the right time and the right place.
Trying to apply to multiple jobs in a short period of time is very possible when doing so online. It’s likely that you will be seen much quicker and more efficiently when placing your resume right in front of someone where they are there searching for employees.
There are social networking events you may be able to attend when looking for a job. They can be in person or they can be online. Either way you do it, this will get your face in front of people looking for the perfect person for the job.
